Adding pizazz to corporate presentations isn't always an easy task. And giving presentations online can make engaging your audience even more challenging.
Our Events Specialist and webinar extraordinaire Erica Best gave us her advice for hosting better online presentations, webcasts and webinars that will keep your audience engaged from start to finish.
1. Check your endpoints and setup beforehand.
Alexander Graham Bell once said, "Before anything else, preparation is the key to success." Those words of wisdom certainly apply to giving a successful and engaging online corporate presentation.
"Enter into your meeting before an event starts to test the end points," Erica recommended. "A virtual event should be seamless, and folks behind the scenes should ensure everything is running smoothly before going live."
Here are a few questions to ask yourself when you're preparing for the presentation:
- How many people will be joining in on your presentation? Are they joining from one conference hall or meeting room, or will they be joining from different places like laptops and smartphones?
- How's the audio on your end? Are you using your computer's audio or an external microphone? Are there any external factors that might get noisy on your end, and can you eliminate those?
- How's your internet connection? Will it be reliable throughout the entirety of your presentation? Will it allow you to show photos, slides, and videos during your presentation?
2. Ask questions before, during, and after.
Knowing your audience is the first step to engaging your audience in a video presentation or webinar. And what's the best way to get to know them? Ask them questions! Of course, having demographic insights on your attendees is critical prep work to be done as you're preparing your slides and planning your presentation, but who says you can't do a little research on the fly? After you've introduced yourself, ask a question or two to get a little context on who is watching.
Here are some ideas of opening questions to ask:
- What are you all looking forward to learning most today?
- Where are you all located?
- What level of knowledge do you have on ____ topic?
- How many of you have ever tried _____?
Then, when you've finished your presentation, ask how it went! What did they learn, and what would they like to hear more about later?
3. Poll, poll, poll.
Maybe you'd like really specific answers to some of the questions you're asking, or you want to gain insights on the group as a whole. Easy. Take a poll!
Be sure to use a video presentation and webinar platform that allows for seamless, in-app polling
so it's easy for the audience to participate while they listen. Participants can make a selection without ever leaving the video screen. This also lets you showcase the results as they roll in, so instead of distracting viewers and bringing them away from your online presentation, it draws them in, engages them, and provides value to the points you're making.
"This is a terrific way to keep the audience engaged during an event," Erica said. "To engage the audience, presenters can send poll questions for attendees to vote on or answer Q&A questions live. This makes the virtual event more enjoyable for participants," she added.
4. Use social media to your advantage.
Online presentation videos and recorded webinars are great content for social media channels like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. But what's even more engaging than a posted recording? Going live! According to Livestream
, 81 percent of internet users said they watched more live streaming content in 2016 than the year before – and that number is growing rapidly.
"Use a broadcasting solution
that allows virtual events to seamlessly stream to Facebook Live. This is a terrific way to broaden the audience of your event and drive social presence to your company," Erica noted.
5. Record and repurpose it.
Why let all your hard work disappear when you're off the screen? Record your presentation
to reap the rewards of a job well done even after the presentation is over! Use an online presentation software that lets you automatically record with the click of a button to make your life worry-free while you're presenting.
"Auto-recording a meeting or presentation is one less thing for the moderator to think about when starting an event," Erica pointed out.
Here are some concrete ideas of what to do with your online presentation and webinar recordings:
- Post it to a blog or social media page
- Gate it and use it to capture emails of those who might be interested in learning more and partnering with you
- Email it to registrants who missed out on seeing your amazing presentation
- Email it to attendees so they can watch it again and take notes later
